WEAR PROTECTION · TABLE TYPE MACHINES

The one part built to be destroyed.

A manganese table top absorbs the blast so the machine underneath never has to. It is a planned wear item — the part you replace so the turntable casting and drive never become the repair.

THE MATERIAL

Manganese steel arrives soft. That is the entire point.

Austenitic manganese steel — roughly 12% manganese, solution-treated and water-quenched — leaves the foundry at around 200 HB, softer than the abrasive about to hit it. Under repeated impact the surface transforms and hardens past 500 HB, while the metal underneath stays tough.

The blast does the hardening. A table top that has been running a month resists wear better than it did the day it was fitted, and it resists cracking because only the skin is hard.

Work-hardened skin

Typical for the austenitic manganese family. The core stays soft on purpose — a fully hard plate would crack instead of wearing.

WHY SEGMENTED, NOT ONE PLATE

The table does not wear evenly, so it should not be replaced evenly.

A rotating table sees very different surface speeds from the centre to the rim, and the blast pattern rarely lands square in the middle. Segmenting the top means replacing the 30% that is finished instead of the 100% that is bolted down.

Plan view · eight bolted segments per ring

Outer ring: Highest surface speed and usually the densest part of the blast pattern. Almost always the first segments to reach the wear limit.

Segments being unbolted from a table top during maintenance — spanner in shot, some segments already lifted out so the bolt pattern is visible. Wide, natural workshop light.

Replace by ring, not by table.

WHAT IT ACTUALLY SAVES

The comparison that matters is not price per plate.

Under impact
Mild steelDeforms and thins steadily from the first shift. Hardness never changes.
ManganeseSurface hardens as it is struck. Wear rate falls during the early service life.
When it fails
Mild steelThins until it perforates, often without warning at the thinnest point.
ManganeseWears down measurably against a marked limit, so replacement can be scheduled.
What it protects
Mild steelLittle. Once through, the blast reaches the table structure beneath.
ManganeseThe turntable casting and drive — the parts that are not consumables.
Replacement
Mild steelUsually cut and welded in, so the machine is down for the repair.

A wear part is cheap. An unplanned shutdown is not.

WHAT MAINTENANCE ENGINEERS CHECK

Four signs a segment has finished its service life.

  1. 01

Thickness is below the marked limit

The only objective test. Measure at the most worn point on the outer ring, not at the centre of the segment.

  2. 02

    Parts rock or sit unevenly

Uneven segment wear tilts the load. Once parts move during the cycle, the blast pattern no longer lands where it was set.

  3. 03

    Bolt pockets are deforming

Elongated or dished pockets mean the segment is moving under load. Bolts will loosen repeatedly until it is replaced.

  4. 04

Cleaning has slowed at the table edge

Often read as a wheel problem. If the outer ring has worn down, parts sit lower than the pattern was aimed for.

SUPPLY & SUPPORT

Fitment confirmed before anything is dispatched.

Segments are manufactured at our works in Faridabad, India, and supplied to foundries, fabrication companies and maintenance teams in India and across the UAE.

  1. 01

    Fitment check

Table tops are rarely interchangeable between makes. A photograph showing the bolt pattern, plus the machine make and table diameter, is usually enough to confirm the right segment.

  2. 02

    Supply

Segments are supplied as a set for a ring, or as a full table where every ring has reached its limit. Ordering by ring is normally the lower-cost route.

Lead time

Indicative only, and dependent on segment size, quantity and production scheduling. A confirmed schedule is issued at order confirmation.

  • Long-term technical assistance

Send a photo and the machine make.

Table tops are rarely interchangeable between makes. A photograph of the worn segment with the bolt pattern visible is usually enough for an engineer to confirm fitment.
